/This year I’ve received more queries than usual from people asking what type of lighting would best suit their home. Whereas furnishing options for most aspects of a domestic set-up vary depending on location, size and personal taste, when it comes to good lighting the best designs come from a precise time and place: the Nordic region between roughly 1920 and 1960. Take a wander through a residential enclave in Copenhagen, Stockholm or Helsinki in the early evening and you’ll see what I mean. Homes here tend to be lit in warm glows cast from Secto wall lamps from Finland, handsome Josef Frank floor lamps from Sweden’s Svenskt Tenn and, of course, the ubiquitous Danish Louis Poulsen PH5 hanging pendant lamp.
